Local Mt. Everest Climber visits MMSLocal Mt. Everest Climber Matt Brennan from Loveland, Ohio, visited MMS seventh grade students to speak about his personal experiences climbing Mt. Everest.

"His presentation was in conjunction with our Environmental Science unit, and helped support our students in their own creations of "A Survival Guide to Climbing Mt. Everest," shared MMS seventh grade science teacher Elizabeth Mills.

Brennan has tackled several summits over the course of his lifetime including Mt. Elbrus, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, and Denali. Yet, Mt. Everest will be his biggest feat. Brennan has been training for the past two years in preparation to climb the world’s tallest mountain above sea level.

“I have dreamed about climbing to the top of the world since I was your age,” shared Brennan. Brennan went on to share his personal climbing experiences of triumph and failure to show students the importance of grit and determination.

Brennan’s message is centered around setting goals and “Finding Your Personal Everest.” Brennan discussed the importance of goal-setting, and focused on many of the beliefs and behaviors that are identified and valued within the district’s culture guide.

“Set a goal and commit to that goal. Understand that it is going to take a lot of effort to get there. But, you can achieve greatness. Find your passion, pursue your passion and don’t quit on it. Whatever you do, don’t quit on it,” shared Brennan.

Brennan has visited many schools and shared his stories with the community to inspire children to get up and go after their dreams. His message truly touched many of the seventh grade students at MI.

“Life is meant to be filled with goals, all bridged together with dreams, faith, grit, and hope. It doesn't matter how old you are or where you live, if you put your mind, body, and soul into anything and everything you do, you will achieve it. Mr. Brennan, and his enlightening experiences, helped better ignite the risk taking flame in me, and really promoted me to follow all of my dreams, no matter how hard they seem,” shared seventh grader Tessa Joseph.
