WHEN: Wednesday, September 18, 2019
WHERE: Mason Middle School
6370 Mason Montgomery Road
Mason, OH 45040
WHY: This year, Mason Middle School reopened after being closed all of last year for a total renovation. The reopening of Mason Middle School represents a significant portion of a plan put into motion 20 years ago.
Thanks to wise financial planning from Mason City Schools’ Board of Education over the last 20 years, and a strong commitment by the City of Mason and Deerfield Township who have made our community a hub of economic development, this renovation was funded without raising local taxes. The district received $34 million (80% of the funding) from tobacco settlement monies through the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC).
As part of the district's commitment to fiscal stewardship, the district has shrunk it's footprint and now has 5 schools in 4 buildings. This allows the district to save on operational costs so that it can continue prioritizing the classroom.
The Mason Middle School renovation provides a safer, more student-centered, attractive and functional school for the district’s seventh and eighth graders.
The renovation includes a new safe and secure entry, STEAM Labs and Learning Areas within the hallways, and a larger, renovated Dining Commons and Serving Area that allows students to now eat within three lunches instead of four.
Other MMS updates include new finishes on the flooring, walls and ceilings, a total replacement of the HVAC system and central plant, replacement of light fixtures to energy efficient LED fixtures, and a new roof.
