The Mason City School District serves a vibrant, most college educated community in southwest Ohio - 22 miles northeast of Cincinnati and 30 miles south of Dayton. The 25 square mile suburban district is a destination for families desiring nationally ranked schools and culturally diverse neighbors. Mason residents deeply value education, and hold high expectations for our community's children and schools. Their expectations are reflected in the school district's commitment to provide a "Mason Quality" education for each student through highly qualified and dedicated educators, rigorous and relevant academics, and excellent enrichment opportunities including nationally recognized performing arts programs and state champion athletic teams.
There are more that 10,000 students in the district, served by 650 faculty and 600 staff members.

Family involvement and community support are integral to the success of our nationally recognized, award-winning school district. We strive to promote strong connections between the school and community, and - most importantly - establish learning as our top priority, today and for the future.
Mason City Schools voters passed a 9.96 mil operating levy in March 2020 by 69%. The Mason City School District ranks 5th in the state and 68th in the country according to the 2020 Niche rankings with a cost per student that is less than the state average, and significantly less than our high-performing peers.
Mason City Schools earned an "A" on Ohio's report card, and ranked fifth in the state for high quality education and student opportunities.
The district spends $725 less per student than the state average and $3,096 less per student than Ohio's Top 10 average.
School facilities send important signals, and Mason City School District voters have made significant investments in the schools where our community's children learn. In December 2013, the district was eligible to receive approximately $34 million from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission to offset the cost for needed facility improvements. In 2017 - 2018, we began implementing Mason's Master Facilities Plan. A significant addition to the Mason Early Childhood Center, total renovation of Mason Middle School, and updates to Mason Intermediate School were funded without new local taxes. Over 80% of the funding for those projects came from the OFCC.
ENROLLMENT
Today, enrollment in the Mason City School District has stabilized. The district's largest class, the Class of 2018, had 950 students while there are around 650 incoming first graders. This district contracted with an independent firm to develop a comprehensive demographic study to produce accurate enrollment projections by considering historical enrollment projection, historical, current and planned residential development, live birth trends, and the number of private, charter or transfer students who come into or leave the district. Mason City Schools' enrollment will gradually decrease to about 9500 students over the next 10 years.
